40's Hits Country: Great Records of the Decade Vol. 1

This album has many good 40s country songs. My favorites are "Slipping Around" by Jimmy Wakely & Margaret Whiting, "Pistol Packin' Mama" by Al Dexter, and "You Are My Sunshine" by Jimmy Davis. Other songs here are "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)", "Mule Train", "Divorce Me C.O.D.", "Humpty Dumpty Heart", "(I Got Spurs That) Jingle, Jangle, Jingle ", "I Love You Because", "Oklahoma Hills", and "One Has My Name (The Other Has My Heart)".

On the Town

This 1949 movie musical is one of my favorites. It stars Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Ann Miller, Jules Munshin, and Betty Garrett. Three sailors, Chip (Frank Sinatra), Gabey (Gene Kelly), and Ozzie (Jules Munshin), are on a 24 hour shore leave in New York City. They fall in love with a picture of "Miss Turnstiles" (Vera-Ellen). In searching for her, they meet Claire (Ann Miller), and Hildy (Betty Garrett). The movie is very fun, with a lot of dancing and singing. Ann Miller is one of my favorite 40s actresses, and she shines in this musical, especially in the "Prehistoric Man" singing and dance scene.

Peggy Lee is a jazz style singer from the 40s. This collection has her songs from the 40s to the 60s. Many of them are 40s songs. My favorite is the 50s song "Fever". The 40s songs I like are "I Don't Know Enough About You", "It's a Good Day", "Chi-baba, Chi-baba (My Bambino, Go to Sleep)", "Golden Earrings", "Why Don't You Do Right?", "Mañana (Is Soon Enough for Me)", and "Riders in the Sky (A Cowboy Legend)". The 50s song "Alright, Okay, You Win". The 60s songs "I'm a Woman", and "Big Spender". I also like Peggy Lee & Benny Goodman - Complete Recordings 1941-1947.

"I Can Dream, Can't I?" and "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen" are more good songs.
